My paragraph for the suicide scene from The Hours:

This scene starts with the main character Laura Brown (Julianne Brown) placing her baked cake onto the table. The cake is burnt and is covered in blue icing. the director has used the colour blue because we associate depression, coldness and sadness with this colour and it conveys the emotion that Laura is feeling without the film saying it outright. We then cut to Laura putting her son in the car and explains what she is doing. We see the main character put the bag in first (into the car) and the camera focuses on her handbag indicating something important is in the bag. Next we see Laura dropping her son off at the babysitter, Mrs Latch, and the child says "I don't want top do this" which reflects the mothers own feelings. we then see a panning shot when the Laura leaves in her car and we see a close up of the son's face for a period of 5 seconds. Next we see that the son is building a house and plays with a car which cuts to Laura speeding and then back to the son playing again. The son the dissesembles the house, which is a metaphor for a broken home which Laura is about to do because she is about to commit suicide which will leave her house in a broken state. We also see that that car that the son is playing with is the same model and colour that the Laura

This will link you to my youtube account which I made for film studies. It has amateur editing. It was a practice test for wipes and transitions from scene to scene. It wasn't meant to have a full story, that is why it doesn't end. it has a few close ups and a matching shot to give the impression without obviously stating it. it has a tracking shot of two characters chasing another character. overall it could be improved by the fact that it could have a completed narrative and better shots with good continuity
